Improve reproductive results

Baas Dairy began using the CowManager system in July 2015 in order to improve their reproductive results. “Now we have a constant eye on heifers and cows,” Bert states. “Alerts come in at whatever time activity is noticed. Cows are bred 18 hours after increased activity is noted.”

When the dairy relied on the use of hormones, all cows were bred in the mornings. However, now they are bred at the most opportune time for conception to occur. Bert states that 85 to 90 percent of the herd is now bred based on a natural heat.

“You cannot hire an extra hand on the farm who does the job that the CowManager system does 24 hours a day. We have stopped almost all programming of our herd since using the CowManager system. It’s nice to get them bred at the right time… thanks to the CowManager system.”

More time for family

The family is well pleased with results so far. Not only is this method decreasing the calving interval, but it is time-effective as well.

Bert claims: “In using this system, I no longer have to needle cows every night of the week for timed breeding, so it freed me up to be involved with activities with our kids, which to me is the most important aspect of the system.”
