Matthias Tibke: “It’s good to have an extra pair of eyes in the barn”
The Tibke family own a family-farm with 220 cows in Deinstedt (Niedersachsen, Germany). Henry and his sons installed CowManager together with representative Holger Wegner in the spring of 2017.
“We are much more flexible now”
The main reason to start with CowManager were the flexibility and the labor saving features of the system. During the harvest season, all family members are always very busy, so they needed someone who could pay attention to the herd during those peak times. Matthias, Henry’s son, says: “With the implementation of CowManager we are much more flexible. In general, it is good to have an extra pair of eyes in the barn.”
The system monitors cows 24/7 and sends real-time data to the user’s computer and smartphone. All data is shown in colored graphs and proactive alerts farmers can act on immediately. This way, they’re always aware of potential problems in the herd.
Monitoring and optimizing
The German family started up with the Fertility Module and the modules Health and Nutrition as a trial. After only two months they decided that these additional modules made their system more complete. “The Health Module allows us to perform early treatments. With the hourly graph we can monitor these treatments and check whether the treatment is adequate”, says Matthias. “The Nutrition Module allows us to monitor and, if necessary, optimize the effect of a ration change.”
